I think that every project should be better than the last.
after you finish one you can study it and learn what it is you should change and improve upon.
even if you only fix one thing its an improvement....that is progress :D
I keep pictures of every project print them off and then go back with a marker and circle things that I don't like.
grading my own work ....sounds odd, but it works :)

I don't see any magic shading process or secret method. Just Darned Fine work. This is what happens when you take the time to really study how light works over a surface and apply it to your engraving.
Just as I look at my own work and think I'm getting there, you knock something out of the park and set the bar a little higher. Nicely done!
