I Have a potential client that would like someone to "engrave" the date at the base of a Elks tooth. I'm not sure if I want to take it on, but in my mind it seems like the best way to do it would be more of a scrimshaw. If I choose to take it on what should I use to ink it?

Scrim, but..if your not up to mustard yourself (judging by your ink question), I'd delegate out to a pro (that, imho opinion is what is being lost these days).
Far too many jack of all trades & masters of none.

I use India Ink, same as any other scrim piece. They take ink just fine, but you have the polish the heck out of them first. "Straight out of the mouth" they're rougher than you'd think. Polishing elk teeth is much worse than engraving them. ;)
