Hi,

I was following to this forum but I hadn't post any. My posts were in other forum but I think so usually same members following the both forum.
I am new to engraving and trying to do bulino engraving. Yesterday I've downloaded Sam's scroll DVD and will begin to practice some scrolls too.

I've got some sideplates from gun manufactures here in Turkey and tried to do bulino on them.
I found that two of them polished very well but I couldn't manage to polish other two.
I think the steel of the plates are different according to manufacture. The two sideplates with woodcock and dogs are polished well against the others two that ducks on them.

What kind of polish should be on the steel to do the bulino engraving on it? Is it should be like mirror?

What is the before and after engraving procedure for the shotguns? Is there any book, video, tutorial etc about it?
Thanks
Sinan

i could say for ordinary engraving, but not sure of the needs for the bulino engravers. i would guess all that bright surface might cause vision problems. i'm thinking the surface might have to be dulled before bulino. i know regular line engraving, the glare would be a problem.
