Question: Spar varnish, rosen vs plastic

I have a question how do I know if the spar varnish is rosen or plastic.

I got the idea from this tip

This is what I found at Wal-Mart

Minwax indoor outdoor
Helmsman spar urethane

And it also says not to thin.
Nonphotochemically reactive.

Is this the right stuff for the job.

nope... Urethane is 'plastic'
The 'real' stuff is hard to find. Has been replaced with urethanes and epoxies. You might be able to find some at a boat shop.

Yep, spar urethane is NOT the same as spar varnish.
