I'm making a skeleton gripcap out of 1/4" mild steel, all by hand and have it roughed out. I have no mill or lathe. I want to put gutters on the inner and outer edges because; (a) I won't have to inlet it down so far, and (b) the ridge will protect the checkered wood inside more than if it were flush.
The outside gutter will be less of a problem than the inner one because it will be difficult to get a file on the inner one. I'm thinking I will have to sculpt it out with gravers and grinders. Does anyone have any novel, time-saving tips on how to approach it?
