This trove was found in 2009 by a passionate amateur with his trusty metal detector. We do know about it, however the article in National Geographic, Nov 2011, ( kindly donated by a friendly dentist waiting room assistant) does give my best high def pictures, and a good overview of how the English came into Britain relatively recently, like America, invading into other cultures thousands of years old. The Islands of Britain and Ireland have rather a complicated history which we need not go into. What we do know is the indigenous Picts, driven by the Romans into the mountains of their homeland, what is now Scotland and Wales, the Celts from Ireland spreading into what is now Scotland, the invading Vikings, and the invading Anglo Saxons, all had a highly developed sense of metal ornamentation, and their own styles, as did the Romans. By the way, I will not discount the influence of the Romans in the regions of Strathclyde, and southern Wales.

Various different techniques are seen on the artifacts.

Here are some of the photos from the magazine, and the story. Well worth buying this edition for your reference library.

Once again, I see my order of photos seems to change in the process of uploading, so would some kind soul please post how we edit the order of photos after they are uploaded?

True, Sam,

He was a remarkable fellow, was Churchill, however, like many of us, he had his flaws and biases. The last of the horse mounted solder era, he took reckless risks and survived, on a chosen fast track path to getting known and into politics, very much in favour of taking over other peoples lands and keeping the territory seized, but outvoted when Britain at last dissolved its empire and returned rule to its indigenous peoples. He was hugely Anglocentric, had a good turn of phrase, carefully prepared his speeches and memorized them, a good writer, a good painter, a bottle of brandy a day habit, and oh yes, perfected the art of dictating his letters to his secretary while soaking naked in his bath, cigar in hand. Well versed in power struggles between European nations, but I would say he knew next to nothing about the peoples who live the other nations that compose Britain.
