As the current contract engraver for Nutmeg Sports, I had the honor of engraving a special project. Guns and Ammo magazine approached Jim to have one of their SAA's in their magazine. Jim asked me if I would like the job. Needless to say, I was thrilled with the opportunity to get my work in a national magazine.

I worked on this gun off and on over the course of two months to execute a near "full" C++++ coverage gun for the magazine. Jim had sent pictures to me of a prior gun to give me an example of the areas he needed covered and left me to do my thing with the gun. The idea was to create a period style look, but do it in a manner that had a modern twist. I chose to put a ton of extra little touches into the engraving to really add little details.

I'm posting pictures of the gun as it left my studio in the white. I will follow up in a subsequent post with pictures of the gun after it received the satin "ink and bake" finish that Nutmeg Sports is known for.

If I get pictures from the magazine photographer I will post them as well. The magazine gave us the permission to post these pictures and talk about the project. The article should be appearing in the September or October issue, so keep an eye on the newsstands to get your copy!

Marty, I'm not real sure how it works. I just know the gun is plated, then some black is baked on the gun. After which, a light polishing is done to reveal the surface. The idea is to create an "antiqued" looking gun. I hadn't really known about till I started working for Jim.

I'm not really into the finishing stuff. I just make chips fly. LOL..

Wow Bert! I like this one even better!
Keep em coming!
Jerry Harper was supposed to find out about the ink and bake for me from Jim but then he ended up in the ICU and I haven't been able to visit him yet. Hopefully someone out there knows more about it and will share the info. Great work Bert!:tiphat:

As always, great work! Quick count..... 5 different types of boarders and it all works together.

nice work but the handles need something put on it to make it not so plain

Scruples, to each his own, but I think ivory is so beautiful by itself, that even a screw hole would be sacrilege.

Now a nice carved eagle would be ok if that's what you meant. ;)

Thank you. Jim told me it's their antique satin finish not ink and bake. I really don't know much about the finishes Nutmeg offers.

Actually Gerry it's a nickel plated finish. Sandblasting would damage nickel so I don't think that is done.
