Hi, I just found an old Sears knife similar to a Buck 110and want practicing on it. Is this scroll viable, balanced. What should I change? I just draw straight with a pencill. Thank you. Slava

Complete line of negative space with no elements reaching the border.
Think you need to revise that. Otherwise....not too bad.

i think the inner elements are too large which leaves for lack of concistency in the background. scan the bolster, resize it and do larger drawings. reduce the size when everything comes together. then either make a transfer, or give a try at direct drawing. personally, i would draw up the spine and leaf structures first. with a bit of practice, you can just eyeball the shading on the fly. at least most engravers do it that way.
