New buckle

Here is a few pictures of a buckle I just finished. Overlay is sterling silver on a steel buckle.

I like it how do you pickle sterling on steel without copper coating it?

I used Oxypho Blue. The buckle is steel.

oops, I forgot to mention. I brushed cheap hooker red nail polish on the sterling before I blued the steel.

Why the nail polish,I didnt think the blueing would affect sterling.

The nail polish protects it from tarnishing. All the bluing I've tried oxidizes the sterling to some degree. The Oxypho does the least damage, but the silver still needs a little protection. If I don't protect the sterling, I have to buff it again and sometimes the buffer gets into the bluing. I always polish it again and I like the way the Oxypho finish shines after a light trip on the polish wheel.

I perfer Gothe black nailpolish! It keeps the mood in the shop a little more somber!

I have my reservations about "Goth Black". I like mine, as Jerry Jeff Walker says it "a little on the trashy side". I'll give it a try though.
