The Kowhai tree is a native of New Zealand and the beautiful bright yellow flower and unusual leaves are the inspiration for this knife. The flower produces a wonderful sweet nectar that the native birds love to feed on. If you look closely you will see the native Huia bird that was highly prized amongst early Maori for its feathers. Sadly, the Huia is now extinct....................And who better to watch over these plants and birdlife than their father Tane, the God of the forest.

Tane is carved in pure silver and the background cut out to about 0.75mm deep. Then antiqued to give some extra depth

Kowhai is pronounced........Ko-fai. The wh is an f sound

You have learned to engrave SO well in such a short time!! Fantastic!!
Now.. when are you going to learn how to talk????
:)
Seriously, it is a really cool design and the combo of several styles of engraving makes it even cooler!

Thank you again.

It was a fun project to do and a very interesting one. The carving work is most enjoyable.

Mike.....The handle measures 87mm length and 16mm at the widest point which is the front. The silver carved peice is 55mm x 11mm. I'm not sure how long the blade is.

Cheers

I love this little knife Andrew. Beautiful work and design as always!
I was wandering about the other side, is it engraved also?
