The Kowhai tree is a native of New Zealand and the beautiful bright yellow flower and unusual leaves are the inspiration for this knife. The flower produces a wonderful sweet nectar that the native birds love to feed on. If you look closely you will see the native Huia bird that was highly prized amongst early Maori for its feathers. Sadly, the Huia is now extinct....................And who better to watch over these plants and birdlife than their father Tane, the God of the forest.
Tane is carved in pure silver and the background cut out to about 0.75mm deep. Then antiqued to give some extra depth
Kowhai is pronounced........Ko-fai. The wh is an f sound
Cheers
