hello
I've been engraving on piano keys for a decade or more, and have started to explore the internet to see what other people do: I've found that many scrimshanders 'stipple' their images.
My work is done as a drawing, with lines and cross hatching for shading (when I try to stipple, I can't get the marks deep enough to survive sanding and polishing, and my hands just naturally start to draw instead of point ... and I also find that stippling takes too long). It's funny, really, because I do work in pointilllism in my ink paintings, so the stippling technique is also natural to me!
What technique do you prefer? Why?
Elizabeth
