Holding watch strap

So I been playing about with an old watch strap and having issues .
What is best bast to have should I use metal to prevent the vibration then put thermoloc ontop
Also should it be curved or flat .
Next is there something that I can reuse of somthing else to make a base with

i think holding on a flat wood block would work. the strap could be anchored with hot melt glue or thermoloc.
