Part of the problem might be the images you're transferring.
I have best luck with line art.
With an image like you're using you'd want to do as much as you can manually to get a good, clear image at the number of pixels you'll be printing at. Realistically, there just aren't very many for it to try to get enough grey levels for the color range you're trying for.
