Question: Have any of you knifemakers worked with Mammoth Tooth scales?

I just took possession of another Ron Lake Chinese made folder. Unlike the last time, this one has crummy Sambar Stag scales. I can return it or I can replace the scales with better material. I really like Mammoth Tooth scales but I've read that they are a real pain to cut. What are the tricks I need to know before I decide on going this route? Also, I saw some stabilized fossil coral that looked really nice and is supposed to be easier to cut. Any opinions out there?

The Chinese made Lake knives are authorized by Ron Lake. The quality is actually pretty good. Don Guild imported a bunch of them and still has them on his website.
