i had a book on heraldic engraving which i gave to an engraver friend. this book shows what a very regimented art this is. in the day, it conveyed specific information concerning those who were entitled to bear arms. this was critical for the old engravers, as they not only had to accurately copy the design, but the engraving techniques also showed the colors which were required to seperate design that may vary little except in color.
