An excerpt from a book from 1905:

GOSPEL OF ART

Work thou for pleasure
Paint or sing or carve
The thing thou lovest,
Though the body starve.
He who works for glory
Misses oft the goal.
He who works for money
Coins his very soul.
Work for the work's sake
Then, and it might be,
That these things shall
Be added unto thee.

Work hard for your wages, don't complaine, be proud of what you have worked hard for, don't accept free unless it is your inheratance, and the rest will be added unto you.

"If you can dream- and not make dreams your master;
If you can think- and not make thoughts your aim;
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And- which is more- you'll be a Man, my son!"

Taken from the poem " IF " by Rudyard Kipling.

Kinda applies to the study of engraving, don't you think?

Don't get rattled, learn to love a deadline. Play good music and get lost in the work.
The last thought at night is how will I make magic happen tomorrow.

Greet the morning like lion and dive into the next project, shrug off problems and make
them melt away before you. Because you are a master and at the top of your game.
