I am engraving a Remington 870 for a local charity. I am attempting to French Gray the receiver but not the magazine tube. Im using PPG metal conditioner for the gray. Any ideas on how to protect the tube?

Be sure all the grease/oil is off the tube....mask off the receiver....spray the tube with a couple of coats of Plastic HT clear engine paint....

I'm with Sam. A nice layer of nail polish keeps the blue there. (Also try to keep the exposure time low on the parts you don't want to change!)

Black electrical tape should do fine to keep that stuff off the tube. I assume you have the receiver there without the stock and barrel and just that tube sticking out. I can't remember how that magazine tube comes out or I'd just describe how to do it and solve that problem altogether.

The tubes are brazed in place. Nail polish, stop out ground, paint or varnish will work. When I've tried tape it tends to leak under at the edges.
