Recently there have been questions on various Forums about Hobo Nickels and the proper proportions the elements of a face need to look Feminine (or just correct, for that matter). I've stolen the ideas from several books and these are my sketches based on another artist's work. I just added the information about the proportions I think are most valuable. I forgot to add that the proportions I've given are the same for Male faces. It's only in the bulkiness or ruggedness that differentiates Male from Female. Usually, the Female form is more subtle and rounded. Study a Kennedy Half Dollar to see a great Male profile.

I have added this to the Tips Archive as it is a MUST HAVE for anyone drawing the human face. Thank you, Mark! This should be printed and hanging on everyone's studio walls :)

As for hobo nickels, when I engrave whimsical characters I don't always adhere to the rules of facial proportion, but it's imperative when engraving a true likeness.

This is great....thank you for drawing this (and quite well, I might add).
