For those of you who are not members of the FEGA and don't get the Graver I thought you might like to see my 1800 era French fowler. This gun is 100% all hand made barrels and all. the castings are all sterling silver and chiseled with multi colored gold and metal inlays and overlays. The barrels are fire blued and silver brazed together. I will only post one photo because the photo are so big. If you wish to see more you can click on the URLs below.

When I arrived in Reno, I ran into a friend almost immediately at the hotel desk. His first words, after hello, were "You've got to see this incredible handmade shotgun!" Well, he was right. It certainly was incredible. The details hiding in every nook and cranny were a constant source of awe. Jerry truly deserved all the accolades he received from his peers.

I owe a lot to the guys in the Guild especially Robert Evens. I learned a lot from guys like Sam Welch although he may not be aware of it. His seminar on Metal inlay work is the best in the world in my opinion.
Ron Smith is a great inspiration and Lee Griffith also. It is a huge thrill to be amongst so much great talent. With all that around some is bound to rub off. Andrew Biggs did a fantastic job on the Graver with the photos and all. We are very lucky to have a guy like him for that position. Thanks everybody.
The competition was fierce as always..

Yes, the competition was fierce, and you were in very good company. However, the scope, beauty and perfection of your piece certainly deserves the accolades it receives. It was a pleasure to meet you and your lovely wife at Reno. And to actually see and touch that fowling piece was a thrill. Thanks for posting the photos.

Outstanding Jerry, will you by chance show it at the CLA show? Congratulations are a well deserved award.
Mark
I can’t say if the gun will be at the CLA show or not. It will be up to the owner . He lives back east around Boston. He has been to the CLA before,

Jerry,

I had the privilege of seeing your masterwork in Reno last January, and took some hit and run photographs to allow others who could not attend to have just a taste of the show. So looking over the superb posted photo links here on the Forum gives us a chance to view your documentation at a level of quality that begins to match this multifaceted work of art and craft. I am deeply impressed with the level of excellence you have brought together to allow us to see the beautiful wholeness from top to bottom. Thank you for presenting the work to us here.

Of course I am full of questions, I confess I am not a gun person, but I know enough about working as a toolmaker to be in awe of your accomplishment. I have done some silver inlay in wood, enough to admire the level of yours. Did you trench the silver in using stabbing chisels... some of those curves are tight, and all are very smooth?

I am also curious as how far you took your designs and ideas on paper before you cut metal and wood. Was there any evolution in your sense of the finished piece as work progressed, or did you think through all aspects before commencing?

A hearty congratulations!

Rod
