From the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Made approx 1895.
This is worth looking at if you're interested in banjo and/or pearl engraving.

Sam. Thanks for posting this link, that banjo is really a treat, some of these older pieces have a real class to them. A real Barometer to set ones quality standards to. Hey, and with that single string you could maybe still work out a little Reno style....

Thanks again..
Chris

That's one heck of a Banjo. What is something like that worth and would it even work being that old.

banjos fly rods and engraving

Hello all: Thanks Sam for this picture, it proves that free lancing is allowed in banjo making as well as engraving and pocket knife making and fly rod making, it appears that whomever made this instrument designed an extra large arm rest probably as an easel for the engraving. Since sitting down with my banjo for the first time I have dreamed up so many ways that I can hand make parts and sculpt and engrave and inlay them, this thing is good for me.
