Hi Folks,
I'm pretty new here and I in fact joined in the hope of finding an answer to this question.
Are there any particular techniques or methods recommended for deep line engraving in stainless steel?
I'm pretty new to hand engraving and am just starting to offer it on a trial basis to some of my customers, and one of them has posed me a particularly challenging task. She wants her logo engraved on a small stainless steel badge, with the lines deep enough that they will leave a good impression when pressed into hot wax.
This is my first time engraving stainless steel, and while I'm getting good results on the lines I'm struggling a lot with getting them to the required depth. Would it simply be a matter of going over the lines many times until it gets to a good depth, or is there some technique or specialised bit of kit I could use to help?
Anyway, hopefully I'll be active in here for a long time to come. I'm just getting into engraving and it's already my favourite thing to do in the workshop!
