Hi there folks, I need a little help with a 3rd gen. Colt SAA I have been carving. The blued portions are going fine, but I just started on the case hardened frame and I cannot get the graver to purchase the metal to start a cut. Help!!! The graver slides across the metal like is was titainium. I am using Lindseys M2but I tried hss and carbalt with the same result. Please advise I know many of you have carved these guns and could maybe lend some help!!! Thanks ,Don't know what I would do without this cafe!!! Thanks Sam and everyone else who makes the is site possble. RJ

The frame should be annealed before engraving. Winston Churchill files off case hardening and doesn't anneal. But it needs to come off.

Sure. Any abrasion can thin lettering and logos, but we're engravers so recutting is an option :)

RJ, Send the frame to some one who knows how to block the frame for heat treating so there's no warping. J.J.
