Hello Shawn,
I understand that you get the black most because your shadows, but did you use something else for make the outsite lines black? Nice style of work. greetings Caty.

this is just a bunch of random stuff thrown together.
really just looking at the possible paths to take.
the more I look at phils work the more ideas about designs I come up with.

A very pleasing combination of two different scroll styles. Instead of straightening the stem as Brian suggests I would first try two other things...first, dealing with the scrolls above and behind I would try extending them below and behind, that is, completing them. The other is to add a bit more fluff in the lower left to balance the pattern. This all is of course dependent on what the design would be used on and its shape. I think you are on to something!
