Thank you, started at the big end of number five and moved out from there.

To illustrate Sam and Monk’s point here is your backbones with correct directional transitions. The red lines in the second pic shows the smooth transition you should be creating.

Yes, much better. Proper flow and good individual scrolls. As Sam said time to start filling different predetermined shapes. As you do so look for balance. In your design the two large scrolls overpower the others. Perhaps in your design the left large scroll could be replaced with two or three smaller scrolls?

Hi Papart1, I assume you are referring to a scroll starting from an ‘inside’ portion of a scroll rather than the outside of the backbone? In my attached pic the red lines showbeginning from the outside backbone and the blue line shows starting from ’inside. If you are referring to something else then please explain.

1st, since TG already used the inner portion of the scroll in his design I wanted keep it and just provide an alternative for him to consider. 2nd, I am not an expert and others on this sight may have different opinions but for me I prefer using the outer portion of the scroll backbone as seen below (red lines) but in some cases I use the internal (blue line). In the case shown below compare the size of the scroll starting from the blue line to the scroll on the left edge starting from the red line. Similar right? Now picture if I had started the right hand scroll from the outside of the backbone but still stayed inside of my outline. The right hand scroll would have been much smaller than the left and thrown off the balance of the finished design. By starting the right scroll from the inside of the center scroll (blue line) I could maintain size and balance of the overall design. Overlapping leaves and shading will tie everything together.

if yes then EEA10B57-5767-45CE-BC82-963C6437C07D.jpeg

Papart, Agreed. I used one of my designs to illustrate my reply to your question. I’m sorry if I answered out of turn or was confusing.

Thank you all for the much needed input, I'm seeing scroll work differently today.

Not sure I know what you're asking, I thought that that you could start out from either end of the scroll, large end/small end, apparently that is not the case, that being said with the aid of the computer the scrolls can be manipulated many ways.

Yessir, that is a previous drawing that I shared to illustrate that I'm working with more variations. All done before this thread, thanks again for your help.
