Question: Avoiding high cost of quality microscope

On one of the cheap scopes I bought I had to take it apart and realign the gears. One side was not synchronized with the other. Most people could probably not do that. Another thing is I had to machine part of the bottom to get a ring light to work. If I only had one scope it would be the meiji. No doubt. The GRS boom mount is way better than the others. I could never do long barrels with the cheap boom mounts. I just use the cheap microscopes for cutting out inlays. As far as eye strain goes I get that no matter what. I guess it is because I'm old.

I've got a great Meiji scope with GRS boom type stand and ring light that'd I'd part with. It's a great scope and everything you'll need to engrave. $800
