As in my opinion America had to be invented during the 16th century, you probably have to search for engravings in the old world.
This is a list of French engravers I found on Wikipedia and it shows more of them. But not weapons as far as I can see.

And this engraving, a portrait of Columbus is made in the 19 th century

Some old books perhaps: http://www.antiquariaat-langerveld.com/antiquariaat/category.php?n=10&id_lang=1&id_category=229

Check out the Rhode Island School of Design.
Google, RISD Brilliant Line. I tried to put the web address in but I couldn't get it to go to the page.
They had a catalog of the exhibit that is very good. The exhibit covers engravers from Italy , Netherlands , Germany, France. The exhibit was during September 2009 to January 2010.
Hope this helps:tiphat:

This is a detail photo from the catalog.

Thanks . These will help. I have been looking online and its very hard to find anything that far back that shows any real details. I'm just trying to get an idea of the style. I have plans when I get good enough , to make a demonstration plate and present it to some local folks that make reproduction armor and weaponry. They make nice swords and armor but lack any detail work. Plan to help them out in that area. Lol. I know it sounds like I'm jumping the gun being a newbie and all but never hurts to have a game plan.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City has an entire wing devoted to medieval armor and most of it is decorated with engraving. I am sure you can find out more about this exhibit on the Internet.

I recommend a preview first, by selecting "Google Images", and searching:

engraved armour arms firearms swords daggers gilding

It always brings up a great variety, and you can home in on the appropriate websites by clicking any image of interest.

For superb detail and huge resolution, search the museums listed in "Google Art Project" and zoom in on any image of interest.

This object is not designed to draw blood, but a very good example of the resolution available to look at older ornamental engraving and carving in metal:

Found the book I was thinking of. Jaeger Rifles by Dr. George Shumway. Great many photos although all are black and white.
