The little things

Here is a buckle that I am working on.
I thought it would help to point out that when shading it is the little things that make such a big difference.
I call these little things (degrees of separation).
This is done by leaving a blank or white space that gives a slight point of interest in a shaded area.

Looks good, contrast is everything and all too often we miss it completely, getting caught up in the process of shading and add way too many lines. I need to control my enthusiasm sometimes and just back off to keep from "muddying" the entire design.
