It has the rural look, and has to be good protection. What about those chain mail type gloves sold by Rio Grande to be used by workers who slice up rubber molds for lost wax casting? Are they too high tech looking, or maybe they are for knife cuts, but not so good against the stabbing action of a slipped graver?
Years ago I stabbed myself between the left thumb and forefinger while pushing a #1 lozenge graver. It went in up to the ferrule. No serious damage because the graver was so narrow (1.25 mm). I think if I was wearing one of those gloves the point would have gone right through the weave of the mail. If I'd stuck myself with a #45 flat it would have done some serious damage but a mail glove might stop a wide graver.
