Critique Request pratice plate and first knife i have engraved

I would be grataful for any tips or pointers that you could give me on the layout and cutting. I have only been engraving for about three months.

the practice plate shows good control on some of the areas. as for the layouts, scroll design and development will come in time. only practice will prove this to you. keep a journal of your drawings and designs. this allows you to see the direction you're going, as well as where you've been. roger bleile showed me years ago how to pull smoke prints. smoke some of your designs. they're easier to compare than photographs when placed side-by-side, and just as informative. i think they also give a better insight into your designs, no shine, glare, or focus problems. just b&w.
