I made this stainless steel pendant for my daughter-in-law, Alejandra Lopez-Fennell. It depicts my grandsons playing. and it is based upon an illustration she prepared for a children’s book she is working on. The original was a large tempura painting, about 27", so I had to shrink the painting down to 1" to fit the pendant.
I commenced the first one with the background removed, but I felt that in relieving the background I had lost the look and feel of a painting, so I did a second one without relieving the background. Instead, I used stippling, burnishing, peening, sanding, etc. to try to reproduce by means of textures what she had accomplished with colors and brush-strokes.
She can now wear her painting, but I guess a stenciled t-shirt would have been quicker.
