Maybe some one can help me out with a metal finishing Question
Im engraving motorcycle parts that are chorme. Im all done engraving and stippling the background and have given it all 2 coats of flat black rustolem rubbed of with my finger as Sam advises and now im wondering what i can put on the parts to protect them from rusting. I tried a clear coat of some kind of a krylon typt stuff but it looks bad. It distracts from the look of the polished chorme.
Whats everybody using as a finish for stuff like this?
I live in Fairbanks Alaska and having the parts re-chormed is to cost and time prohibitive.
Anyone have and ideas that work and last well?
Thanks, Jim

Jim P,

You cut through the chrome? Didn't it flake or start to peel?
Must folks who do motorcycle parts have the chrome removed then have them rechromed or some other type of finish nickle, copper, blah blah...if they aluminium they can be polished...or what Sandy suggested too.

Yeah dood. I'd blast off any plating before starting the work then re-finish however you want your metal. Powder Coat is going to be your best finish after engraving.
