one can learn a lot studying Islamic ornament. I have spent a lot of time with it.
it is after all, where we get the word" Arabesque" which we often use to describe engraving, and is typified by the lack of figures, in compliance with the Mosaic commandment " thou shall not kneel before any graven image" , against idolatry. ( golden calves etc)
