Hunters Beware of Covid in Deer

How SARS-CoV-2 in American deer could alter the course of the global pandemic

Scientists have evidence that SARS-CoV-2 is circulating in white-tailed deer in the U.S. They say the findings could essentially dash any hopes of eliminating the virus in the U.S. — and the world.

I wasn't aware of this however, and regrettably, more deer and elk here in Montana are testing positive for Chronic Wasting Disease, a Prion disease which seems to be a second cousin to Creutzfeld-Jakob and Alzheimer's, both of which cause dementia. And while there is no conclusive proof that the Chronic Wasting Disease in wild game can be transmitted to humans from the meat, the FWP (Fish, Wildlife, & Parks) is recommending that hunter's discard the meat from any animals whose samples were submitted and tested positive.
