welcome to the forum. i'm not sure what you said. most that post here ues english, or at least try to use a translator software program. anyway, that vise could serve you very well for many, many years. when you begin to engrave, feel free to send fotos of your work.

According to the deepl translator, the swedish guy asks if anybody knows anything about the ball vise, like age and what was it used for.

I don’t, never seen one made from brass or bronze before. The trust bearing in the center could be a retrofit, the grooves in the halves look like an unused ball race.

Why he doesn’t ask in English I can’t guess, most people from sweden I met spoke fluently English.

that ball looks like steel to my eye. possibly cast iron ? i think most were of steel.
