Hello folks,
Here's couple of horns I finished up the vine on the folk art horn led to the other horn motif. The big horn is 13 1/2" from tip to stern with a diameter of aprox. 2", walnut plug and stopper. There are four panels of vine work, a fun piece for an upcoming show. The small folk art horn is a commission.
Enjoy,
Mark

Thanks guys, horn are a fun change of pace and a tough canvas at times, large round surface with grain structure as well as hard and soft spots that can change things real quick. I usually cut these holding in one hand to turn as the knife hand cuts. Other times especially doing a lot of lettering I'll set up a pedestal on my table with a sand bag or two for proper height and comfortable position to cut. Yes, I have had knuckles slashed from this but how else to learn from a mistake, not sure if it's the pain or the embarrassment of cutting myself. I did use a burin to enhance the lines on both horns to give a bit more depth.
