This coin is a portrait of the beach dog that watches while we sleep. I thought you might enjoy the work process as it has proceeded thus far.
I love the work you are doing with so many comforts and aids, microscopes, computer transfers, comfy chairs and nifty new tool point configurations that can make life so much easier. This work being done today is so much more sophisticated than a short 30 years ago. I am a cranky and stubborn old fart stuck a couple of generations behind.
As I have no place that I desire to go and I enjoy the time spent in my studio. I prefer to do things the old, hard, time consuming, thought provoking way.
I thought these photos are of how it was done in times gone past, might interest you. Tools used H& Sq. graver, pencil, scribe, punch, and a push burin &7x loupe.
If you would like to read a book about an engravers life contact me and I will send you the text for free. joseph123joe@yahoo.com Have a good day,

How did you smooth the coin before engraving?
Looks great as always, Thanks for sharing.
Hope all is well, THANKS!!!!

Joseph, I'm very interested, as a novice I like history on engraving. Although it can't be seen in your work that you are doing it the old way.
But as I understand, you discovered some new tools like computers.

Is it the dog in your avater?

I like it so far Joseph. The likeness of the picture is very good and I like the border you did.

I hope to see it when it is done.

Kieth,a good engravers block makes a big difference,I surface my coins with needle files, emery paper and an old Fordum flex shaft grinder.
Arnaud, I love my computer almost as much as I love my dog.
Steve, thought about teaching a couple of times, but that is as far as I went.
Thank, you all for your interest.
