not an exotic material, but has certain advantages over ivory. i found out about ivory many moons ago. it can go crazy with changes in humidity, esp if it's scales on a fairly large knife.

If You Make a large hunter in the area I live in, that is the Highveld, and send it to the coastal areas, you will get cracks and Scrinking.
