Eric, that looks lovely. In addition to Chris' comments, the only thing I would add is to be careful of the area behind the bird. Try to keep your scrolls spiraling nicely, unfortunately in this area it almost looks as if you have a straight line formed by the backs of the scrolls. It really draws the eye which is a shame because your cutting looks lovely. Overall though, a very nice piece indeed. Well done.
Yes Chris and Marcus. I can see a couple of areas that might not be just right (the straight line you pointed out, Marcus), but when I look at the overall piece it's quite nicely done and beautifully shaded and I tend not to think about them so much. As Marcus said, it's well done and a very nice piece of work.
Looks really great Eric.
Yes some mistakes like Sam and Marcus are pointing on but nice to look at.
It seems to me you made a lot of progress. On your designs, cutting and shading.
Also curious what computer program you used for the design?
Eric, my favorite part is the bird. Very imaginative and well done. Here is a suggestion for another option with the scroll in the middle. Redraw the medium sized scroll that sits just above the wing and goes clockwise. Redraw it so it goes counterclockwise and comes off of the medium sized scroll just below it instead of the large scroll. If it goes underneath the wing don't worry about it. Then redraw the large scroll with just a bit more curve to it. There are other ways to change the scroll design but this is quite simple to do and will have a significant effect on the appearance. This is a piece that I like a lot and isn't it fun to see other possibilities.
Hi Marcus!
Thank you for your comment!
Thank you so much, that drew my attention to the line behind the birds!
Tell me how many degrees (acute) should be Graver for shading?
I used:
Tablet WACOM Intuos3 A3
Adobe Illustrator CS5 (for drawing spirals).
Rest of the work I did in the program Autodesk SketchBook Pro 5.0 (2011)!
SketchBook Pro 5.0 - an interesting program!
It is much more primitive than Adobe Photoshop.
SketchBook Pro 5.0 is designed specifically for drawing!
The most interesting feature - a mirror-drawing!
My impression when i saw it was very nice ! I would suggest one thing . On the next project cut on the outside of your original outline drawing and see what happens. Your finished result will be even better because your design will include the drawn line that makes your leafs and it will change your proportions to what you originally drew. It won't be a difference that is too drastic but it will make a difference to what your drawing is.
