beautiful wriggle work on most difficult surface. There are several engravers here that work on flutes. Do a search and you will find some wonderful work. Thanks for joining us Fred

Pretty Fancy engraving on the horns, both pretty and fancy. Were the instruments assembled when engraved? or did you have them apart to access the inner curves better? How do you clamp them?
I've never done horns, but would be interested in learning, in case anyone brought one in.

Thanks, Will

holding horns

Will, hello
I make my living now as musical instrument tech for Louisiana State Unversity School of Music
Before that I was a brass musical instrument restoration specialist for 25 years. Engraving just seemed a natural exstension of my horn resorations, mostly re-engraving.
I almost always dissassemble the instruments so as not to bend keys ect.
holding horn on my lap or on benchtop at first.
But in time I made mandrels to hold the instruments then put thatmandrel in a floor vise so I can move around the instrument, that works much better for me.

I have made a holder out of a camera tripod base which allows me to hold instrument and turn in any direction while cutting.
