Making of a Simple Doming Die

first step is to lay out the shape.
Drill a small hole.
Next, cut it out.
Then remove material from the sides of the die to create clearance for the metal that will be domed.
Then load the die in the press and do a test piece.
Now you can see which parts need more clearance. Then I remove more material from the die to prevent the tearing and shearing that is happening.

very cool Haraga. Thanks for posting this.

My question on this is I am guessing you would have to machine the piece for the male die to attatch to the kick press (in top of photo 5. cylinder that male die is on the bottom of.) If you do indeed machine this do you need one for each male die you use or can you just simply use multiple male dies with the cylinder piece?

Also how does the male die attatch to the cylinder (or die holder for lack of better words)?

Just one cylinder is needed and the male die sticks to it with beeswax.
