Hello Mike, I clicked on the link Fred placed before the "enough said" comment. The cylinder is laser engraved, jeweling, and the colored designs are a two part chemical process called Duracoat. The Duracoat sounds to me to be basically a high tech paint that will withstand temps up to 500-600 degrees Farenheit. I can't speak for Fred, but to me, this represents the mass produced and so called factory engraved guns that have been discussed in other threads. I will say that it is plainly stated what it is on the gun, so there is no misleading the customer.
