I was just asked to engrave a memorial plaque that will go on a bench at a golf course. I was wondering what metal holds up best in an outdoor environment ?

In my opinion the only REAL stainless steel is the AISI304 (excellent for nautical purposes) or AISI316 as well.
The second one is much harder to engrave.....for this one I use tool made with high speed steel.

john b. gets the prize here. this metal, in time, will form a real nice patina- objectionable to nobody.

Arnaud, maybe you meant corrode... It is corrosion resistant.

Titanium DOES oxidise - instantly, as soon it contacts oxygen.

That passive and protective oxide coating protects it from further reaction...

Brian

You are probably right Brian, I just wanted to mention that stainless steel rust in salt water and Titanium doesn’t.
Using the wrong “termâ€￾ happens when one tries to explain something in another language than his mother tongue.
