I have run into several instances transferring onto black backgrounds such as anodized aluminum and polymer finishes with mixed results at best and was wondering if anyone could share their secrets. I have tried white marker for a base but is very difficult to clean all of it off after engraving.

I make a sort of thinned out paint using Rustoleum flat white paint thinned with acetone and applied with a pipe cleaner. It is easily removed with acetone.

I do quite a few AR-15 type recievers and what I do is take a silver sharpie and color the area. I can then transfer directly to the sharpie as a medium or apply a very light coat of Tom's magic sauce over the top of the sharpie and transfer to that. The transfer solution will eat the sharpie if the sharpie isn't good and dry or the solution is applied too thick.

When you're done, alcohol either iso or denatured will clean things up readily.
