OK... If you think NASCAR is a redneck sport, keep it to yourself but for those that do follow it..
Here are some quick snapshots of the Goodyear Gold Car Award that will be given to the Champion Dec. 3rd.
One shot shows how I hold it and the others are some of the real car/trophy.

Rex, that is very cool. I have a hard time believing your bench can be so clean and organized. Impressive work, and thanks for sharing. Seth:thumbs up:

Sakes alive! Talk about a high pressure job! Really nice work, Rex. That's got to be a tough one to layout and engrave. You certainly handled it like a pro!

Part is done by hand, part is done with the pantograph with patterns I engrave by hand.
I do the patterns in advance but I then usually have 3 days to engrave the entire car.
I should say 3 18-20 hour days...

Yeah, and don't forget all the research that had to go into it!!

Drinking copious amounts of alcohol while lying on the couch watching the races on TV for days on end.

It's tough, but someone's got to do it :)

Cheers

Andrew,
That is called Research and Develpment! Don't give away all my secrets!
Thanks to all.
Arnaud, it is made from copper and then gold plated after engraving.

That's sweet Rex. Do they give you only three days because they don't know who is going to win it till the last minute?
Is it brass and then gold plated when your done?
How about a finished trophy picture when it's all together.
Good job.

Yes, we usually have to wait until the last race is run. This year we had a plan "b" and did one car ahead of time and had a second one ready if needed. The logistics of getting it engraved, then couriered back to the builder for final finishing/polishing and plating. Then it get assembled, photographed, crated and couriered out to Las Vegas. All of this has to be done in 9 days. Add in a Thanksgiving weekend and time gets REALLY tight. I assume I will have some finished photos of it once it gets awarded on the 3rd.

Wow Rex

It really looks great. Thanks for uploading some photos, I was wondering what it would look like.

Hope you have caught back up on your sleep. (Sorry didn't mean to say that so loud and wake you up)

Mike
