Sam cuts the outside of a wedding band with two lines on the edge of it, It seems to movie the ring from 9to 12 when He cuts the ring. Is where any teaching DVD on ring engraving? What type of angle and heal , etc. This was at the of Sam's sharping DVD.

Hi Harold. I use a 45° face and 15° heel on my square and 120° gravers. On flats for cutting script I use a 40° face and radius heel. On onglettes it's also a 45° face with a hand-shaped heel and I can't give you precise angle measurements. For ring border lines I would generally use a square graver sharpened to the angles above. I want the borders deep but not wide, and a 120° graver isn't my best choice for those cuts. A square usually is, but at times I'll use an onglette (but not often). Cheers / ~Sam

Hi Sam,
Do I get it right, do you use in general a square graver and the 120 only for special occasions??
I am practicing now with an 120 (with the Lindsay Classic Footcontrol), what's the best type of engraver for a starter to use and to learn.
