This is one of my first guns, for the Saudi Royals if I remember right, hence the arabic under.
Lots of design questions here:rolleyes:

Phil,

Beautiful though quite different (than your more recent work).

You began at a point few of us will ever reach!

Thanks for sharing,
Weldon

I've never seen rabbits used before, but it really is effective.

Thanks for sharing. ;)

Such a wonderful study..Thanks for sharing...
Gosh, Phil---I sure hope you're asked to teach a Grand Masters Class.
I'd like a shot at it.
I missed Martin Strolz class, due to scheduling conflicts. My loss and I'm miserable about it too.

I'm just thinking back to those days when I used a someone else to take the photos, he was not pro but teached photography.
He'd never photographed engraving before, the first time he presented me with the pictures he was so pleased with what he had accomplished but they looked terrible. What he'd done was shoot the gun with the engraving in the negative position so that all the black lines were white  He was not too pleased when I a novice had to correct him!

Digital cameras are a godsend, in the old days you just did'nt know if the pictures would come out any good and by then the gun had gone back.

Phil,

I'm curious... can you remember your first 'ever' practice piece?
Did you look at it and think 'oh hell that's awful - must practice more' or were you just brilliant right from the start? :big grin:

Hi Jo,
Yes I was just brilliant from the start....and so good looking with it :big grin:

Unlike today when all the help is there, tools, sharpening templates, I could go on and on, I had nothing, with a capitol "N" it took many weeks to come up with a tool that would cut, and a long time before I could make it work.

Phil, this is over the top in beauty, and I don't have the words to do it justice.

You said there were design questions?

Sir, - if you were to do this gun again.

What would you do different?

Since you are the only man I know who could do a Bunny
Gun better than this.

Charlie......how much time have you got.:)
The main scroll leaves are too large and the design is too cramped. The cutting of the stalks going to the leaves are not cut smoothly enough.
The game scene, I am reasonably ok with as I know that the cutting was a lot finer than the photo shows, scanning and picture grain has a lot to do with this, but the shading around the middle firn leaf on the right is to abrupt and needs to be feathered a little more.

Thank You for responding.

I got time to listen to anything you got to say.

I got time to look at anything you got to show.
