I just wanted to let FEGA members know that issue #83 of the Engraver will be shipping on Monday or Tuesday. Each time I get one of the latest issues I say that Andrew won't be able to top the last one and somehow he did it again!! This particular issue is quite special as it is so full of great stuff we expanded the issue an additional 4 pages! Because of printing and shipping costs we won't be doing this every issue but due to the length of an article in this one we decided to go ahead.
And yes... I am going to keep you in suspense..... :)
Keep an eye in your mailbox. Also, once you get the issue, pay attention to the mailing label. This is the time of year that many of you need to renew. You don't want to miss any issues!.
In fact after spending all day making flyers and mailing labels, I am going to sit back and read the latest issue myself!

I was quite pleased to get the renewal reminder tucked in with my last issue, albeit a bit chagrined that I'd neglected to notice myself. Ah well, for next year there's an entry in my schedule.

Are you guys printing those mags more often, or is time just moving along faster. Seems like I just got the last one. I sure enjoy them anytime I get them.

That's what happens when you get older Seth... Time goes by quicker!
We still publish quarterly. There are occasions when one might be a bit late and one be a bit early however. A lot of it revolves around the printers, shipping and holidays.
It does seem like a short time however.

Only speaking for myself here ------- We all know the cost of living keeps going up but the cost of the engraver/membership hasn't changed. I for one would be happy to pay another $10. or whatever to suppliment the increasing cost of publishing our mag. If all of a sudden we were told that the "Engraver" wasn't going to be continued due to cost, we'd freak out. I can't think of any publication that I would hate to loose more than this one. Just think it over guys ....... Rex, I for one will include an extra $10. when my subscription is up. Furthermore, I offer to all you guys my most sincere appreciation for all you do. Ken

Hi Rex, I sent my membership renewal Priority w/ delivery confirmation just so I wouldn't miss an issue .... a little absent minded and squeaking in just under the wire. :) A good precaution since I live 2 weeks from everywhere.

Looks like it made it yesterday with time to spare. :yes

----

Speaking of "donations" ... I'd prefer to purchase a full page of advertising and donate it back to the editor to be used to expand the "Around the Traps" section. Is that possible to do? As I'm soooo independently wealthy because my house is one of the few here on the ridge that doesn't have wheels, I should be able to swing it.

Drool! Drool!

Got quite a good laugh out of your avatar eastslope.

Ken and Christopher, those are good ideas.

Christopher, Cicero also said something to the effect that if you want to be an old man long you best become one early...a tenent I have followed for many years.

The magazine is a tricky one and each issue is a bit like a jigsaw puzzle making everything fit. You can't just add an extra page or two because the way it's printed it has to be in multiples of 4 (2 pages font and back) There's no problem with doing that when the need arises.

We are also very lucky that the advertisers are always a pleasure to deal with and because they advertise regularly that helps offset the printing costs of the magazine. OK, it's a commercial decision for them but they are very supportive of FEGA as well and they all deserve our support.

What makes the publication so good is all the every generous articles and photos that are submitted by a wide range of authors and engravers. One of the things I really enjoy about it is the cross section of articles from "how to" through to human interest stories. It's a real pleasure being the editor of the magazine and a job I really enjoy doing.

This issue there is 3 pages of around the traps and I also have a bit of a backlog to show as well, which is great. So keep those FEGA photos and articles rolling in. The next issue is lining up to be a good one as well!!

Cheers
Andrew

Hi Chris

A charitable re-distribution of magazine space..................Am I sensing a West Virginian liberal socialist sentiment here??? :big grin: :big grin: :big grin:

Honestly Chris, it's a good idea but not really necessary thanks as the advertising comes and goes and fluctuates in sizes etc..............and it also depends on things like length and number of articles and how many "around the traps" photos I have as well. Quite a few of those photos from various engravers end up as mini articles.........so there's quite a few variables other than the advertising. It's just a bit of a balancing act at the end of the day and a matter of juggling things around a bit with each issue.

Cheers
Andrew

Hahaha .... now that's a good one Andrew. As I didn't mention "wealth" ... don't consider me even partially indoctrinated. :big grin::big grin:

.... ( and said in Marlon Brando "Godfather" fashion) ... I won't take offense to having my hand, extended in generosity, slapped away but remember that I offer it only this once. :big grin::big grin:

I'll find another way to help out.

Take care buddy ... Chris :big grin:

Just an update..
The magazines were sent out yesterday. There was a slight delay in getting them out but they are on the way now.

I have no idea what the US Post Office is doing with the newsletters but I didn't get mine until Saturday and its the same town. They are shipped First Class but I am guessing they might have assumed they were bulk mail and didn't send them to the distribution center right away. Sorry for the delay but they should arrive soon!

Mine arrived this morning and what a spectacular issue. I want to especially thank Phil Coggan and Andrew Biggs for the article on the Nelson guns. This is probably the most in-depth and detailed magazine article on the process of gun engraving ever published. It is going to take some time to read and digest all that is in this issue.

Also thanks to Brian Powley and everyone else who contributed to this issue.

It still amazes me that they have arrived in the Northwest US today and I just got mine yesterday... Anyhow, I'm glad you get to sleep indoors tonight Dennis but I doubt you will sleep much. There is a lot of reading to do!

Rex, I picked up mine today.
I just glanced at it. I'll read it all when I have time to savor it.
Thanks to you and Andrew and everyone else who had a hand in this.
Exceptional.
