A carved silver crest

Some time ago I carved a crest in silver that was to be fitted into the centre of a large silver bowl made by the UK silversmith Stephen Cambery. This crest was made from silver sheet with no casting involved. The bowl was about 20 inches diameter and it was made for The Livery Company of Haberdashers.

Great work!
I was wondering how you did the gold inlay considering the often it is hard to do in softer metals?
Did you solder it first?
thanks for enlightenment.

Boris I am sorry not to answer your question earlier as I missed your post. The gold parts on my crest were not inlays, they were hard gold plating, done for me by a skilled gilder. It is a process we call parcial gilding and it entails painting the parts that do not need gilding with a blocking agent laquer before submersing the whole crest in the plating solution.
