Interesting style

I found this image (in the public domain) on wiki. It is an engraving by Claude Mellan in 1649 called the veil of veronica. I have attached it and linked to it (not sure how long the link will be supported). It has a very interesting radial design originating at the nose.

That is interesting!

So now in addition to the usual "lines or dots?" discussion we can add "curves" as well.

I’ve seen a photo of this engraving in a book 3 years ago and since spent hours searching it in the web. I couldn’t remind the name of the engraver :rolleyes:

I’ve just found a web site where you have a detail of the fine spiral cut finishing ( or starting ?) in the nose.

appropos of not much- the name Veronica comes from the latin Vera (true) and icona (picture)- from the image of Jesus on the cloth used to wipe His face by St. Veronica (obviously a chicken/egg set up...)
