blood stone, onyx engraving question

Stone engraved rings onyx, blood stone ect..

(1) Is there anyone in the forum who does this?

(2) Are there any books tapes on how to do this?

If there is someone who is doing this could you message me, e-mail or post reply no rush just looking for info.

The stone isn't engraved ,it is carved with rotary tools under a water drip.there are some books on carving gemstones ,but most only give a few basics. link to basic carving,intaglio carving is much more involved.

i have done severa signet rings that were onyx. not sure about blood stone. i used a 400,000 rpm air turbine "drill" with very small bonded diamond dental burrs. you need high rpm, or you'll not get the close control that you need. the slower speeds will surely lead to disaster. don't use burs that your dentist has used. the critical working areas on these burrs are almost always worn away. i get mine from patterson dental supply. www.pattersondental.com the onyx cuts very easily this way. the supply house sells burrs and such without any restrictions.
